Atlantic Marine Corps Communities Begins Utilizing Solar Thermal Water Heaters
Atlantic Marine Corps Communities (AMCC) recently finalized a Solar Thermal Purchase Agreement with FLS Energy of Asheville, NC to purchase energy produced from approximately 900 solar hot water heating systems being installed on AMCC homes.
The solar systems will generate energy equivalent to approximately 2.5Million kWh per year reducing electricity costs from the utility by approximately 20%. The project is the largest of its kind in the Southeast and will prevent the release of 2,886 tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year, which is the equivalent of taking 712 cars off the highway or planting 28 acres of trees.
Approximately half of the 900 solar thermal systems will be installed on newly constructed homes and half retrofitted on existing homes.
“This initiative will be seamless with little to no impact on our residents while also providing increased energy security for AMCC and a significant reduction of power needed from the electrical grid,” stated Matt Lynn, Deputy Project Director.media
