Actus Lend Lease at Fort Hood was recently awarded the first 26 LEED for Homes Silver certifications for sustainable construction in the newly expanded Patton Park. The first batch of certificates is the first in a total of 232 anticipated for this prestigious award.
Fort Hood Family Housing’s participation in the US Green Building Council’s green homebuilding program, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for Homes began under the pilot program in 2007. LEED for Homes is a national third-party certification system for energy efficient, healthy, green homes. Joining more than 700 national builders, including custom home builders, production buildings, and affordable housing developers; Actus Lend Lease continues to provide an invaluable sustainable focus on green homebuilding in the military community.
"After all 232 homes are certified, this project will be one of the largest military housing communities under the USGBC pilot housing program for LEED,” says Actus Lend Lease-Fort Hood Project Director Mack Quinney. “The LEED program requires each member of the design, construction and Army housing and military team to unite in one common goal – to provide energy and environmentally efficient homes for our military families. It is an accomplishment that everyone can be proud of."
LEED certification provides third-party assurance to homebuyers that their home complies with rigorous technical requirements for energy and water efficiency, indoor air quality, non-toxic materials and environmental performance. Homes that are certified through LEED, complete a technically rigorous verification process that includes a home energy (HERS) rating and onsite inspections.
