The United States Green Building Council (USGBC) recently awarded the LEED Gold certification to the first 92 new homes in Midway Park II at Atlantic Marine Corps Communities (AMCC), Camp Lejeune, NC. Actus Lend Lease is currently in phase one of four at Midway Park, with all 537 planned new homes expected to receive LEED Gold certification.
Upon the completion of all new homes at Midway Park II, the neighborhood is expected to be the first on a Marine Corps Base and the largest neighborhood in the state of North Carolina to be comprised of all LEED-H (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified homes.
LEED for Homes is a national third-party certification system for energy efficiency, healthy, green homes. Atlantic Marine Corps Communities will join more than 700 national builders, including custom home builders, production builders and affordable housing developers to develop this type of home.
The benefits of building LEED homes include lower utility costs by utilizing dual flush toilets, energy efficient appliances, compact florescent lighting (CFL), thicker insulation, and more. The 537 new homes will also use recycled content material in the sheetrock and drywall and provide better air quality for residents.
